Chikungunya in Reunion (update 1)

According to French public health authorities, there have been 47 500 confirmed cases of chikungunya in Reunion from 1 January 2025 to 4 May 2025.
Advice for Travellers
Chikungunya is an infection spread by mosquito bites and can cause a high temperature (fever) and intense pain in your joints. Two new chikungunya vaccines have recently been licenced in the UK.
The mosquitoes which transmit chikungunya bite during the day, between dawn and dusk. They are particularly persistent and aggressive.
If you are travelling to an area where chikungunya is present, you are potentially at risk of infection and should be aware of this infection.
- You can protect yourself by avoiding mosquito bites at all times.
If you develop a fever either during or after travelling to an affected area, you should seek medical advice as soon as possible and give details of your recent travel history.
