Avian Influenza Update (China) (Egypt)

On the 15 November 2016 the Hong Kong Centre for Healthy ProtectionLink issued an Avian Influenza report advising that as of 12 November 2016:

  • There has been a total of 800 human cases of avian influenza A(H7N9) reported globally since March 2013. In November 2016, 2 cases have been recorded in Mainland China.
  • Since 2014, 14 human cases of avian influenza A(H5N6) were reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) and all occurred in Mainland China. The latest case of avian influenza A(H5N6) was reported on 8 June 2016.

  • From 2011 to 2015, 32 to 145 confirmed human cases of avian influenza A(H5N1) were reported to WHO annually (according to onset date). In 2016, There have been 10 cases in Egypt in 2016.

Advice for Travellers

Travellers experiencing severe flu like symptoms within 10 days of returning from travel should contact their GP and inform them of their recent travel.
