Chikungunya Virus Infection in Mexico (Update)

Chikungunya virus is an ongoing risk in Mexico. Since November 2014, a total of 11 394 suspected cases have been reported nationally. The worst affected states include: Veracruz with 1939 cases, Guerrero 1672, Michoacan 1605 and Yucatan with 1587 cases.

Advice for Travellers

Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, is recommended. Bite avoidance measures include: covering up with clothing, the use of insect repellent and bed nets impregnated with insecticide. Reduction of mosquito breeding sites around hotel rooms/homes is advised for longer term stays.
