22 Jul 2015

Dengue fever is an ongoing problem in Brazil. As of 26 June 2015, a total of 1 253 041 suspected cases have been reported nationally. Of those, 360 331 have been confirmed as dengue virus infection.

Advice for Travellers

Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, is recommended. Bite avoidance measures include: covering up with clothing, the use of insect repellent and bed nets impregnated with insecticide. Reduction of mosquito breeding sites around hotel rooms/homes is advised for longer term stays.

Chickungunya and Zika virus are also currently circulating in Brazil therefore avoidance of mosquito bites is essential.
