Hepatitis A in Norway

01 Apr 2014

An increase in the number of hepatitis A infections in Norway has been reported. In the last three months, a total of 28 cases have been recorded. Of those, almost half were travel related whilst the remainder of infections were contracted in Norway.

In 2013, there was an outbreak of hepatitis A in several Nordic countries which was related to the consumption of frozen berries. The Food Safety Authority is working with Public Health to investigate the source of the outbreak.

Advice for Travellers

Norway is a low risk country for hepatitis A and vaccination is therefore not recommended. Travellers should be aware of the recent increase in cases and take care with food and personal hygiene.
