Avian Influenza (Human) in China (Update)

New human cases of avian influenza A(H7N9) continue to be reported in mainland China. On 12 March 2014, the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health (DH) recorded one additional case; an 86 year-old-man in Anhui province.

According to the DH figures, total of 380 human cases of avian influenza A(H7N9) have been confirmed in mainland China, including Zhejiang (138), Guangdong (87), Jiangsu (43), Shanghai (41), Fujian (21), Hunan (17), Anhui (10), Jiangxi (6), Beijing (4), Henan (4), Guangxi (3), Shandong (3), Guizhou (one imported from Zhejiang), Hebei (1) and Jilin (1).

Advice for Travellers

Travellers experiencing severe flu like symptoms within 10 days of returning from China, should contact their GP and inform them of their recent travel to China.
