Foreign and Commonwealth Office Safety Alert for India

17 Jan 2014

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has issued a warning to British women travelling in India. There has been an increase in the number of sexual assaults against foreign women in India recently. It has been reported that British women have been sexually assaulted and/or harrassed in places such as Goa, Delhi, Bangalore and Rajasthan. In 2014, serious sexual attacks have been reported against Danish, German and Polish women travellers and the FCO advise that women should take particular care over their personal safety, even when travelling as part of a group.

In the event of an assault call 100 (mobile 112) for police assistance in India.

The British High Commission in New Delhi provides advice for women who have been subjected to a sexual assault in India.
