Avian Influenza (Human) in China

12 Feb 2013

The Ministry of Health has reported two confirmed human cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza virus (H5N1) infection.

Both cases, a 21-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man are residents of Guizhou province in southern China. There is no epidemiological link between the cases and neither gives a history of contact with poultry; both patients are in a critical condition in hospital.

Advice for Travellers

Avian influenza is an ongoing problem; travellers should be aware and take steps to minimise the risk.
