Ross River Virus in Australia (Update)

As of 29 Sep 2012, an increase in the number of human cases of Ross River virus has been reported in Western Australia. In 2012 there has been a five-fold increase compared with the number of cases reported in 2009. There have been 1,570 cases between the 2011 and 2012 transmission season.

Advice for Travellers

Travellers to Western Australia during the summer months are advised to avoid mosquito bites, particularly if outdoors after dusk. Travellers should use personal protective measures such as the use of repellent and clothing to cover the skin.
