Dengue in the Americas and the Caribbean

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) reports continuing widespread transmission of dengue fever in countries of the Americas and the Caribbean.
The following countries have reported dengue cases from 1 January 2025 to 24 February 2025:
Argentina: 299 cases
Barbados: 18 cases
Belize: 44 cases
Bolivia: 2 354 cases
Brazil: 518 017 cases (126 deaths)
Colombia: 31 967 cases (4 deaths)
Costa Rica: 1 126 cases
Dominican Republic: 186 cases
Ecuador: 6 607 cases (6 deaths)
El Salvador: 411 cases
Grenada: 24 cases
Guadeloupe: 2 220 cases
Guatemala: 4 439 cases
Guyana: 6 012 cases
Honduras: 1 759 cases
Jamaica: 35 cases
Martinique: 293 cases
Mexico: 14 587 cases
Nicaragua: 5 702 cases
Panama: 331cases
Paraguay: 6 597
Peru: 11 833 cases (5 deaths)
Puerto Rico: approximately 513 cases
Saint Barthelemy: 17 cases
Saint Kitts and Nevis: 4 cases
Saint Lucia: 12 cases
Saint Martin: 53 cases
Virgin Islands (UK): 9 cases
Virgin Islands (US): 1 case
Dengue is an infection spread by mosquito bites and can cause a severe flu-like illness. It is uncommon in France but is known to occur in the summer months.
Advice for Travellers
The mosquitoes which transmit dengue bite during the day, between dawn and dusk. They are particularly persistent and aggressive.
If you are travelling to an affected region, you are potentially at risk of dengue fever and should be aware of this infection.
- You can protect yourself by avoiding mosquito bites at all times.
If you develop a high temperature (fever) either during or after travelling to an affected area, you should seek medical advice as soon as possible and give details of your recent travel history.
