Mumps in Israel (update)
27 January 2010
Since the beginning of September 2009, when the mumps outbreak was first reported, more than 850 cases have been recorded nationally.
In the Jerusalem district a total of 600 mumps cases have been recorded. Around 60% of cases had received two doses of MMR vaccine and another 20% had received one dose.
Advice for travellers
It should be confirmed that children have received their recommended doses of MMR at 12-15 months of age and again pre-school around 3 years 6 months, while unimmunised adults who have not had the disease themselves may consider vaccination if thought to be at risk. Two doses of MMR vaccine is required to give adequate protection
