Travel health information for people travelling abroad from the UK

Netherlands (ex Suriname)

13 Mar 2017

On the 13 March 2017 the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment reported (in Dutch) confirmed a case of yellow fever (YF) in a Dutch traveller that is known to have contracted the disease in Suriname.

Advice for Travellers

A traveller's risk of YF is determined by their general risk assessment e.g. country visited, length of stay, city or rural, activities etc.

  • Mosquito bite avoidance rules should be adhered to - the mosquito that spreads YF bites predominantly during the day.
  • YF vaccine should be considered for travellers at risk (unless contraindicated).
