A media report of 8 September 2016 asserts that an outbreak of cryptosporidiosis in the Central Ohio counties of Columbus, Delaware and Franklin has risen to 600 cases.
The majority of cases report multiple exposures at various recreational water facilities throughout the three counties. Consequently this outbreak has not been tied to any one location.
Advice for Travellers
Cryptosporidiosis is a self-limiting parasitic diarrhoeal illness. As this disease occurs worldwide all travellers are potentially at risk; maintaining good food and water hygiene is the best prevention. Further information can be found on Food and Water Precautions page.
