Cholera in Haiti (Update)

02 Aug 2016

The Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) has reported 21 661 suspected cholera cases reported and 200 related deaths in Haiti between January to early July 2016. The number of cases reported in the first four weeks of 2016 exceeded the total cases reported in the same period in both 2014 and 2015.

Advice for Travellers

Cholera is a low risk for most travellers. Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food/water precautions and personal hygiene should be maintained whenever possible.
