Dengue Fever in Mexico

Dengue fever continues to be a problem in Mexico. Nationally a total of 139 966 suspected cases have been reported as of 25 September 2015. Of those suspected cases, 14 935 have been confirmed as dengue.

The worst affected states include: Guerrero (1593 confirmed cases), Michoacan (1134), Veracruz (1139), Oaxaca (1121) and Colima (1119 confirmed cases).

Advice for Travellers

Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, is recommended. Bite avoidance measures include: covering up with clothing, the use of insect repellent and bed nets impregnated with insecticide. Reduction of mosquito breeding sites around hotel rooms/homes is advised for longer term stays.
