Dengue Fever in the Philippines

Dengue fever continues to be reported from the Philippines. As of 24 August 2015, a total of 48 872 suspected cases have been reported nationally. The worst affected areas are: Calabarzon (15.3% of cases), Central Luzon (12.8%), Metro Manila (12%), Northern Mindanao (9.3%) and Socsksargen (7%).

Advice for Travellers

Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, is recommended. Bite avoidance measures include: covering up with clothing, the use of insect repellent and bed nets impregnated with insecticide. Reduction of mosquito breeding sites around hotel rooms/homes is advised for longer term stays.
