Earthquake (Second) in Nepal

12 May 2015

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has reported that a second major earthquake has occurred in Nepal. The 7.3 magnitude earthquake took place today, 12 May 2015, in a rural area close to Mount Everest. The level of damage is not fully understood, however, aftershocks have occurred and could continue, increasing the risk of landslides and avalanche.

Advice for Travellers

The FCO are advising travellers in Nepal to follow local authority advice. If travellers are in a safe place they should stay there for the time being. Travellers, however, are being advised to leave Nepal if it is safe to do so.

Travellers intending to visit Nepal in the near future should check with the FCO and their tour company/sending agency/charity etc for further advice.
