Dengue Fever in France

A third confirmed autochthonous case of dengue fever has been reported in France in 2014. The most recent case has been identified in the Bouches-du-Rhône in Aubagne and has been reported by the regional health agency and the prefecture of Bouches-du-Rhône. Mosquito control activities are taking place around the area of residence of the latest case.

The first two cases cases were reported in Var and Toulon and there is no epidemiological link between the three.

Advice for Travellers

Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, by covering up with clothing, the use of bite avoidance measures such as repellent and bed nets is advised. Elimination of breeding sites around hotel rooms/houses is advised for longer term stays.
