17 May 2013

Four new poliomyelitis cases were reported in the past week from Borno, Kano, Yobe states in the north of the country and Taraba state in the southeast, bringing the total number of cases for 2013 to 22. The cases from Borno and Taraba are the most recent in the country, both with onset of paralysis on 24 April.

Subnational Immunization Plus Days were held this week (11-14 May) in northern and middle-belt states.

Advice for Travellers

It is recommended that travellers have a poliomyelitis booster (or course) if not already protected and take precautions with food, water and personal hygiene.
