Dengue Fever in Pakistan (Update)

A total of 1460 cases of dengue fever has been reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northwest Pakistan. The districts most affected include: Mansehra (506 cases), Abbottabad (449), Malakand (363), Peshawar (90) and Swat (28 cases).

Dengue fever cases have also been reported in Punjab province; Rawalpindi (3740 cases) and Multan (340 cases). Sindh province has recorded around 3000 cases of dengue fever.

Advice for Travellers

Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, is recommended. Bite avoidance measures include: covering up with clothing, the use of insect repellent and bed nets impregnated with insecticide. Reduction of mosquito breeding sites around hotel rooms/homes is advised for longer term stays.
