Dengue Fever in Fiji (Update)

30 Apr 2015

Dengue fever cases continue to be reported from Fiji. The ministry of health has recorded 543 laboratory confirmed cases. The worst affected area is the Northern Division with 437 cases, followed by Western Division 57 cases and Central Division with 49.

The ministry of health is advising communities to be aware and help eradicate mosquito breeding sites in their area.

Advice for Travellers

Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, is recommended. Bite avoidance measures include: covering up with clothing, the use of insect repellent and bed nets impregnated with insecticide. Reduction of mosquito breeding sites around hotel rooms/homes is advised for longer term stays.
