According to media, the Iranian Veterinary Organization has reported that 7 people have died in an outbreak of Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) has killed.  A total of 56 cases have been rpeotered up to 30 July 2018.

CCHF is widespdread in Iran although the areas bordering  Pakistan are of particular concern. The infection ends to appear in spring, becoming more frequent with the beginning of the livestock breeding season. Approximately 10% of infected people die of CCHF. Annually, some 100 to 150 cases of Crimean-Congo fever are reported in Iran.

Advice for Travellers

CCHF is found in over 30 countries in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe/the Balkans and the Middle East. It is a low risk for the average traveller; it is spread by infected ticks from a reservoir usually in animals such as cattle, sheep and goats. CCHF can also be transmitted by contact with the blood of an infected animal. Avoidance of tick bites is essential in risk areas.
